MISSION
The mission of Beisbol Across Cuba is simple: To collect lightly used baseballs, gloves, bats, cleats and other gear in the U.S. and distribute it in Cuba to youth players and teams.
INSPIRATION
Beisbol Across Cuba was inspired by several objectives:
• To teach young athletes in the U.S. the value of sharing with others.
• To help young athletes, in the U.S. and in Cuba, learn more about the culture of peers across the Straits of Florida.
• To provide Cuban players with the tools of their favorite sport, replacing crushed cans with baseballs, strips of cardboard with mitts, tree limbs with bats.
• To assist with President Obama's efforts to improve relations with Cuba.
FIRST TRIP: SUCCESS
Beisbol Across Cuba took its first trip to Cuba in August 2015, traveling with a delegation from Christ Church Bronxville and hauling 575 pounds of baseball equipment to the island. The gear was delivered to the Episcopal church in the small town of Itabo, and it is now being used to form teams, develop the skills of young players and strengthen communities in Itabo, Favorito and Santa Clara. BAC will make as many as three trips to Cuba in 2016.
